Five musicians in five large water tanks. Using specially developed instruments, they play and sing beneath the water. AquaSonic is the latest production by the Danish group Between Music. It is also one of the most ambitious interdisciplinary projects of this time: an underwater opera. After countless experiments in collaboration with deep sea divers, instrument makers and scientists, the musicians worked on special underwater instruments for ten years. They also perfected their underwater singing technique. ‘The five performers, who seem to float virtually weightlessly in their tanks, take the audience into their dream world with their equally weightless but strictly organised music.’ (Volkskrant – Dutch newspaper). AquaSonic opened in 2016 at the Opera Days in Rotterdam and became an internationally acclaimed phenomenon.
